  • 28. A Pigeon... & Tomorrowland

    17/04/2016 Durata: 36min

In this week's episode, Danny reviews 'A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Reflecting on Existence' - a Swedish comedy so dark, it makes Schindler's list look like Grown Ups 2. Sam joins him to discuss "Tomorrowland: A world Beyond" a fantasy so bright, it makes Grown Ups 2 look like Schindler's List. They also discuss Johnny Depp's dogs, Dr Strange's cast mates, Cary Fukunaga's departures and Idina Menzel's acting habits. FILMS!!!!!!  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 27. Mad Max: Fury Road & Pitch Perfect 2

    17/04/2016 Durata: 41min

It's women-centric sequels week on Film Chat, as Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy help five fugitive wives dodge a hundred exploding cars in Mad Max Fury Road; and Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and the rest of the Barden Bellas take to the global aca-stage for some more aca-tastic a capella singing in Pitch Perfect 2. Plus, we discuss the prospects for the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, and we talk about how great Emily Blunt is, not only standing up for women in flats at the Cannes Film Festival but also providing us with a delicious recipe for chicken noodle soup. Finally we try our hand at coming up with some crackling Aaron Sorkin-esque dialogue for Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs biopic.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 26. Big Game, The Tribe & Girlhood

    17/04/2016 Durata: 43min

We review Big Game, the film where Samuel L Jackson battles terrorists with the help of little a Finnish boy. No characters in the film deliver the line "Let me finish" or "I'm gonna finish him off" or "I'm finished" Which, in this reviewer's opinion, is a massive wasted opportunity. We follow it with a review of acclaimed French drama Girlhood. No characters in the film deliver the line "I'm just a girl from the hood!". Which, in this reviewers opinion, is a colossal wasted opportunity. Finally we check out Ukrainian sign language film The Tribe, which has a complete lack of any memorable dialogue. Which, in this reviewer's opinion, is a gargantuan wasted opportunity. We also reminisce about our bowling trip, tackle the latest movie news and wonder whether the decision to cast Germaine Greer as Mad Max has turned the franchise too feminist.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 25. 8 1/2 & Top Five

    17/04/2016 Durata: 44min

It's navel-gazing artist week on Film Chat! We've got a blast from the past in the form of Federico Fellini's avant-garde Italian classic 8 1/2, and a blast from right now as Chris Rock fictionalises his own life in Top Five. Who would win in a fight between Fellini and Rock? That's just one of the questions this episode does not address. Plus, we take look at Orson Welles at the pinnacle of his career -- drunkenly advertising champagne and board games -- and we discuss all the latest blockbuster tidbit news items. In a nod to the upcoming election, we also examine the favourite films of party leaders Cameron, Clegg, Miliband, and Farage. What's that you say, the election already happened? Most of those people have resigned? I don't know what you're talking about and I refuse to contemplate it.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 24. Avengers: Age Of Ultron, The Falling & A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night

    17/04/2016 Durata: 36min

This week on Film Chat, Danny reviews one of the year's most hotly anticipated epics -- the Iranian vampire drama A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, which is already crushing box office records around the globe. Its only rival is the massive The Falling, a psycho-sexual British drama about an all-girls school in the 60s which Sam tackles in an exhaustively detailed review of his own. We also offer an exclusive look at Idris Elba's unused soundtrack contribution for Fast & Furious 7, rejected by Universal for lack of relevance and constant references to John Luther. We discuss upcoming space films Star Trek: Beyond (recently given a title) and Star Wars: Rogue One (recently given a plot). Substantial airtime is also devoted to plugging our bowling night, which all our listeners are encouraged to attend (see our Facebook post for further details). Finally, we take a moment to mention obscure superhero blowout Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it doesn't go that well because Sam can't remember any of the charact

  • 23. Force Majeure & John Wick

    17/04/2016 Durata: 36min

On this episode, Sam returns from his holiday and spends the first 20 minutes showing Danny all the photos he took and reciting a lengthy anecdote about a really helpful waiter he met. Afterwards they discuss the latest movie news, but annoyingly every news item reminds Sam of the hotel he was staying in. Danny then tackles Swedish comedy Force Majeure, which causes Sam to recollect about a humorous incident at the airport where there was a mix up with his luggage. Finally, Sam reviews dog avenging action thriller John Wick. However one of the characters mentions Iceland which prompts another tedious digression.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 22. Best Of Songs & Skits

    17/04/2016 Durata: 27min

Whilst Sam is away, we thought it best to offer up a platter of classic Film Chat moments to chuckle at nostalgically! The best of all the songs, some Oscar worthy acting and some very silly giggle fits about Christopher Lee's age....  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 21. While We're Young & Fast And Furious 7

    17/04/2016 Durata: 41min

On this episode of Film Chat, Danny, being the older of the two, was sent to review Noam Baumbach's bitter old man comedy While We're young. The references to Rita Ora, 1D, The Twilight Saga and Beyblades went right over his decrepit, balding head. Meanwhile, being the quickest and angriest Film Chat host, Sam was tasked with reviewing action sequel behemoth Fast and Furious 7. Ironically his review is both slow and meek. PLUS we discuss Disney's live action remake of Pinocchio, the casting on Ang Lee's latest film AND we have an exclusive audio clip from upcoming comic book, remake, reboot, and franchise spawner and/or killer Fantastic Four.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 20. Wild Tales & The Face Of An Angel

    17/04/2016 Durata: 34min

This week, Danny went to see Wild Tales, an Argentinian anthology of short stories about passion, justice, and revenge -- and Sam went to see Michael Winterbottom's The Face of An Angel, a film about a gloomy man taking cocaine and going on Skype.* One got a much more positive review than the other. We discuss whether the recently announced live-action Winnie the Pooh film could successfully continue the trend of uncanny-valley CGI bear children's films begun with Paddington; and possible plotlines for a film adaptation of Play-Doh. We also touch on Easter, a major holiday that does not seem to inspire filmmakers. *He's also trying to work out how to make a film about Amanda Knox and Meredith Kercher. But mainly he wants to drink and go on Skype.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 19. Wild Card & The Gunman

    17/04/2016 Durata: 39min

It's a lads special this week as the lads tackle some films aimed at the most important cinema going demographic -LADS. They discuss Sean Penn's 'old man with a gun movie' The Gunman, and Jason Statham's 'middle aged man with no guns movie' Wild Card. They also pay tribute to the greatest lad of them all, Clarkson, with an in depth analysis of his favourite films. The whole thing is heavily reminiscent of the 19th Koricho Uno film 'Caressing a peach' which, despite it's title, is the most masculine film ever made. LADS! LADS! LADS! LADS! LADS!  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 18. The Tale Of Princess Kaguya & The Cobbler

    17/04/2016 Durata: 37min

This week on Film Chat Danny reviews the latest sumptuously crafted animation from Studio Ghibli, The Tale of Princess Kaguya. The film took four years to make but only seven minutes to review..and there's a lot of padding. Meanwhile Sam tackles the Adam Sandler indie drama The Cobbler, whose title provides a lazy, dismissive joke for any British critics reviewing the film. Film Chat is no exception. PLUS: An in-depth discussion about the trailer for Pixels, a film which has masterpiece stamped on every frame. If when listening you find yourself thinking "This is very reminiscent of Super-Dimension! The Storm Called My Bride the 18th film in Crayon:Shin- Chan film series" you're not wrong. The whole episode is an elaborate homage to that superlative sequel. If you spot the reference to Masuzo Kaneari, write in and let us know!!!  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 17. White Bird In A Blizzard, Chappie & Citizen Kane

    17/04/2016 Durata: 44min

This week on Film Chat, Sam and Danny review Chappie, Neil Blomkamp's sci-fi fable about the wonders of robotics and the dangers of Australians. We also peer at Gregg Araki's indie oddity White Bird in a Blizzard and muse somewhat aimlessly about the unappreciated obscurity Citizen Kane. Plus: what we'd get up to if we were subjected to the face-swapping procedure in Face/Off; our vision for Tim Burton's Dumbo; and we catch up with friend-of-the-show Woody Allen about his latest casting announcements.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 16. It Follows, Catch Me Daddy & The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

    17/04/2016 Durata: 54min

Much like the 16th film in the Falcon franchise "Search for Danger" this week Sam and Danny sought out danger. They found it. Featuring a dangerous review of Catch Me Daddy, and life threatening appraisal of It Follows and nerve shredding disassembling of The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Sam and Danny also discuss the best way to avoid the monster from It Follows and launch their own, entirely fictitious Film Festivals. They do both these things while trying to remove some toast from a toaster, with a bread knife, while the toaster is still on. They love danger. DANGER!!!! ***Disclaimer: Katie accidentally refers to 'The Warrior King' as the Elephant King'. She feels foolish. Although it does have an elephant in it.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 15. In Your Eyes & The Duke Of Burgundy

    17/04/2016 Durata: 40min

After last week's blockbusters, this time we turn our attention to smaller fare: Sam enters a world of lesbian bondage and entomology lectures in The Duke of Burgundy, while Danny tries to get inside Joss Whedon's head to work out what he was thinking when he wrote the romantic drama In Your Eyes. Plus we discuss last Sunday's Oscars, discover a shocking secret in Will Smith's filmography, and spend 15 minutes arguing over what colour Danny's shirt is. This fifteenth episode of Film Chat has the wit of Groucho Marx, the cunning of Chico Marx, and the mischievous playfulness of Harpo Marx -- in fact if the whole thing reminds you of the fifteenth Marx Brothers film, Love Happy, you're not alone.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 14. 50 Shades of Grey & Jupiter Ascending

    17/04/2016 Durata: 38min

Similar to Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods the 14th installment of Film Chat is loud, bright and at times completely incomprehensible. Audiences will debate whether it was a great episode or the greatest episode? Featuring reviews of space romp-along Jupiter Ascending and sex bonk-athon 50 Shades of Grey, as well as the usual nonsense nonsense nonsense.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 13. Shaun The Sheep & Selma

    17/04/2016 Durata: 39min

In the 13th episode of Film Chat, Sam and Danny discuss the Bechdel Test, the theme of the upcoming year-long Bechdel Test Fest in London. For those who don't know what it is, we've got an educational musical number that will teach you all about it. Plus we review Selma, the civil rights drama set in the curious bygone days when the USA had race issues, and Shaun the Sheep, a delightful animated adventure that would be the clear frontrunner for Best Picture 2016 if there was any justice in this world. The whole thing is more than a little reminiscent of The Sign of Zorro (1958), the 13th American Zorro film which I'm told features continual references to sheep and voting rights.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 12. The Interview & Kingsman: The Secret Service

    17/04/2016 Durata: 42min

Like Star Trek Into Darkness, the 12th film in the Star Trek franchise, this latest episode of Film Chat is bigger, bolder, noisier, and ultimately worse than the previous one. Critics will cite the moment where Sam undresses in front of Danny for no reason as a series low point. This week, Danny risks igniting another international incident by reviewing Seth Rogen comedy The Interview, and Sam and Danny take a look at porn-for-GQ-readers spy thriller Kingsman: The Secret Service. Plus: some suggestions for Stephen Fry's ever-obsequious celebrity introductions at the BAFTAs, and Katie does her impression of Jeff Goldblum's hands.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 11. Inherent Vice, A Most Violent Year & Ex Machina

    17/04/2016 Durata: 48min

Like the 2009 film Pink Panther 2, the 11th in the Pink Panther series, this is the episode of Film Chat that is gonna take its place in the history books. Unlike Clouseau, Sam proves himself to the epitome of competence by doing not one, not two but two reviews. Firstly of Paul Thomas Anderson's stoner noir Inherent Vice, and secondly of J C Chandor's mob drama A Most Violent Year. Meanwhile Danny, much like the character of Clouseau's girlfriend Nicole Durant-Clouseau, iconically brought to life by Emily Mortimer, supports him at every turn. He also checks out Alex Garland’s debut sci-fi film Ex Machina. "Are robots human?" the film asks. “Obviously not." he replies.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 10. Foxcatcher & Wild

    17/04/2016 Durata: 35min

Like Ishiro Honda when he made All Monsters Attack (Godzilla's Revenge), the 10th Japanese Godzilla movie, we're going all out for episode 10 of Film Chat. After a bumpy start when Sam fails to meet Danny's famously exacting standards, we're soon back in the swing of things. Like Godzilla's foe Giant Condor in All Monsters Attack, we swoop down to tackle Foxcatcher, the bookie's favourite for Best Nose Prosthetics at the Oscars, and Wild, a "shoe"-in for Best Walking.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 9. Whiplash, Into The Woods & The Theory of Everything

    17/04/2016 Durata: 42min

Much like Carry On Spying this ninth installment of Film Chat is overlong and lacking in laughs. However historians will re-evaluate it as incredibly good. Featuring reviews of drumming film "Whiplash", singing film "Into the Woods", and shit film "Theory of Everything" PLUS other THINGS.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
