From 1996 to 2011 (maybe even 2013), the Long Island Serial Killer took the lives of many sex workers in the area. This week I had the amazing opportunity to interview Molly Eagan. Molly is a trauma-informed writer, activist, and award-winning investigative journalist. In this episode, we talk about her and Lizzy Hershberger's new book, Behind Blue Curtains. It is a memoir about Lizzy's experience leaving the Amish and coming forward about the abuse she experienced as a young child there. Her story is, sadly, very common among these communities. This week we're taking a break from our normal episodes to talk about something extremely important. The Tulsa Race Massacre is one of the worst nights in American history. The residents of Greenwood were thriving and successful and that was brutally taken away from them. This story is almost never taught in schools,  even in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This weekend is also Juneteenth. In between recording this and today, the Senate unanimously voted to make Juneteenth a national holiday. This is great but would be a lot sweeter if it wasn’t so preformative. We still have a lot more work to do.
