THIS week Danny reviews The Magnificent Seven, the seventh instalment in the Magnificent series. Plus! Jared Leto takes on his latest role guaranteed to set an audience's teeth on edge; Danny gets a tour of the London Film Festival from Ken Russell's ghost; and Sam does his best to channel John Hannah with a heartfelt ode to Brangelina.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 87. Café Society

    21/09/2016 Durata: 46min

All the awesome people are dying, the economy has tanked, hate crime is on the rise and Bake Off is leaving the Beeb.....but Film Chat is....very late BUT still here. We try and divert you from this cluster fuck of a year by discussing whether Will Smith's latest film will be his most powerful yet, whether Woody Allen's new film is his laziest yet and whether Johnny Depp is capable of playing man who isn't drunk or weird.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 86. The Childhood Of A Leader, Popstar & Brotherhood

    11/09/2016 Durata: 47min

This week, a triple whammy of reviews! Childhood of a Leader, which lusty teens and Danny flocked to at the promise of some brooding, dreamy R-Patz action, only to discover to their dismay it's a historical psychodrama about a mop-haired fascist boy; Brotherhood, the final part of Noel Clarke’s Hood trilogy in which poor Noel gets pulled back in just when he thought he was out; and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, The Lonely Island’s parody of megastardom featuring more man-baby silliness and celebrity cameos than you can shake a booty at. We are delighted to be joined this week by special guest Dougal Macqueen, who wows us with his knowledge of Catherine Breillat’s oeuvre and the xXx franchise. He also helps us discuss Paolo Sorrentino love of making films about rich old men and James Franco’s efforts to make a yucky movie about everyone’s favourite predatory subculture, pickup artists. Plus, Sam attempts to write a Lonely Island song in 10 minutes.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out

  • 85. Julieta

    04/09/2016 Durata: 48min

This week we review the latest Pedro Almodovar film Julieta, a film that features everything we like in films, namely; sexy women, sexy men, sexy women having sex with the sexy men and life shattering grief. We also investigate how many chickens have to die for Dwayne Johnson to maintain his hugeness, give our sympathies to Chinese audiences forced to watch the latest Bourne film in 3D and wonder how it possibly came to pass that Shaun the Sheep: The Movie wasn't voted the best film of the 21st century.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 84. The BFG & Tale of Tales

    21/08/2016 Durata: 48min

This week we enter a magical world of giants, dreams, sea monsters, fleas, and horny French kings, as we review a pair of cinematic fables -- Spielberg's sparkling Roald Dahl adaptation The BFG and Matteo Garrone's dark fairy-tale anthology Tale of Tales. Also! We discuss John Turturro's plans to make his classic "The Jesus" character extra creepy and whether movies are irresponsibly encouraging young people to declare war on that much-maligned demographic, middle-aged white dudes. And we are treated to some mini essays on popular music videos from legendary director-cum-philosopher Werner Herzog.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 82. Weiner & Star Trek Beyond

    10/08/2016 Durata: 54min

This week on our currently somewhat irregular podcast, we boldly go over colourful space romp Star Trek Beyond, a film bravely acting as if its poorly received predecessor (2013's Star Trek Into Darkness) doesn't exist. We also take a peek at fly-on-the-wall political documentary Weiner, a film about a driven candidate for New York Mayor bravely acting as if public photographs of his penis don't exist. ALSO! Aquaman visits Whole Foods, Guy Pearce comes out with some sick quips, Mrs Brown falls victim to Brexit, and we talk at length about dick pics.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 81. Jason Bourne

    03/08/2016 Durata: 42min

EPISODE 81 OUT NOW!!! It took 9 years for Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass to cook up another instalment of the Bourne Franchise so the 5 day delay in releasing this ep is nothing in comparison. Featuring reviews of Jason Bourne and.....nothing else BUT it does have in depth discussions on all things Comic Con, the possibility of a Terry Pratchett adaptation and the news that Michael Caine has changed his name to something less "terrorist-y". Specifically, ladies are kicking the butts of level 4 ectoplasmic apparitions in Paul Feig's reboot of Ghostbusters, and each others' statuesque butts in Nicolas Winding Refn's delirious The Neon Demon. We also discuss Natalie Portman and Jonathan Safran Foer's strange epistolary relationship, get caught up in the world-conquering phenomenon Pokémon Go, and find out what the misogynist haters made of Ghostbusters now that they've actually seen it. Turns out they still didn't like it.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 79 - Queen Of Earth

    10/07/2016 Durata: 38min

On this week's episode things got a little too close to home when Sam and Danny reviewed the psychological drama Queen of Earth. A film about two friends who are so closely bonded that at times it's as if they're sharing one personality, also one of them makes jingles......spooky Plus we examine the latest surrounding theme song writer and part time actor Idris Elba, raise an eyebrow at the bizarre Margot Robbie piece in Vanity Fair and get more political than Ken Loach at a Billy Bragg concert when discussing all thing Chilcot  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 78. Embrace Of The Serpent & Adult Life Skills

    04/07/2016 Durata: 43min

The chaos engulfing the United Kingdom hasn’t left Film Chat unscathed, as for the second week in a row this episode is out super late. Sorry listeners! Blame Nigel Farage, you might as well. This week, Danny reports back on the transporting experience of watching dreamlike Colombian drama Embrace of the Serpent, and Sam rambles on about charming low-key British comedy Adult Life Skills. We also challenge Billy Zane’s claim that his character in Titanic is the film’s true hero; discuss directing duo Daniels’ dream to remake White Chicks as an intense, Oscar-bait drama; and dissect at length and repeatedly the epic trailer for the latest Dan Brown adaptation, Inferno.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 76. The Nice Guys

    11/06/2016 Durata: 41min

This week, we review the Ryan Gosling/Russell Crowe buddy comedy The Nice Guys. Inspired by that film's amicable male bonding, we conduct the whole episode big cheery grins on our stupid faces, deeply appreciating each other's company. Exchanging supportive thumbs-ups throughout, we also discuss Rogue One's extensive reshoots, bitch about trailers-within-trailers, and almost come to blows over the end of L.A. Confidential.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 75. Everybody Wants Some!! & X-Men: Apocalypse

    28/05/2016 Durata: 48min

There are two things that Danny and Sam love, talking to chicks and battling omnipotent, ancient, megalomaniacal mutants. As luck would have two films have come out that cater to those weirdly specific needs as they review laid back bro drama, Everybody Wants Some!! and urgent, exploady film, X-Men: Apocalypse. We also discuss the news surrounding the upcoming Power Rangers film, a third Django movie and postulate what the best film to get absolutely gazeboed to is.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 74. Mustang & Sing Street

    21/05/2016 Durata: 51min

This week, Danny and Sam review two films about the tribulations of adolescence. The musical coming-of-age story Sing Street shows that poverty, family dysfunction and mean priests can be overcome by the power of love and wonderfully synthy pop music; in the Turkish family drama Mustang, synthy music is in woefully short supply for five orphaned sisters kept cooped up by their ultra-patriarchal uncle. Plus: I tell Danny he CANNOT BE SERIOUS about Shia LaBoeuf's latest role; we also wonder whether those skeptical about the new Ghostbusters movie are slightly sexist or massively sexist; and we suggest replacing Daniel Craig's Bond with the obvious choice, Brad Pitt as a Benjamin-Button-esque old man baby.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 73. Cannes Special - Demolition & The Green Room

    16/05/2016 Durata: 46min

Bonjour! This week Filmchat is in France, or as the French would say "en France," to cover the 2016 Cannes Film festival. While there we sneak in reviews of "white man facing problems movie" Demolition and "white men facing white supremacists movie" Green Room. Plus we discuss the latest projects from visionary directors Guillermor Del Toro and Terry Gilliam and have an exclusive interview with French director Jean Marc Valee. Bon Appetite!  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 72. Son Of Saul & Captain America: Civil War

    08/05/2016 Durata: 44min

This week, Danny explains how an innovative filming concept drew him into the intimate Holocaust drama Son of Saul, and Sam explains how the superheroes punched each other well good in the equally powerful Captain America: Civil War. We also discuss Wolverine 3's increasingly angular and British cast, speak to Becky about her famously good hair, and look at how the lads are fighting back against the oppressive feminazi remake of Ghostbusters. Solidarity, brave lads!  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 71. Our Little Sister & Bastille Day

    30/04/2016 Durata: 41min

Do you like men who run and fight? Do you like women who talk and emote? If you're answer to both those questions was yes then this is the episode for you, as we review sisterly love drama Our Little Sister and shouty punchy nonsense film Bastille Day. PLUS: We wonder if the muppet franchise would be livened up with some casual homicides, marvel at the new Snowden trailer, and sell our souls to the corporate juggernaut which is the Fulham Hair and Scalp Clinic.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 70. Dheepan, Ran & The Jungle Book

    23/04/2016 Durata: 44min

Reviewed this week: The Jungle Book, a remake of the classic animation in CGI so lavish you could prick your paw on its prickly pears; last year's Palme d'Or winner, immigration drama Dheepan; and Akira Kurosawa's epic King Lear adaptation Ran. PLUS: Our despair at news of the soulless-sounding Emoji film is lifted by Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's bizarre apology video, and we showcase Idris Elba's musical contribution to The Jungle Book - sadly absent from the final cut.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
